TRACTORS
Tractors
are the most common, versatile and adaptable piece of
farm equipment. They handle a wide variety of chores;
from tillage to planting and loader work. They are typically
equipped with a high capacity lifting hitch, full hydraulics
and modulated single or dual PTO(s). Transmissions are
available with up to 24 speeds, and can be manual or hydrostatic.
Tractors
come in four basic configurations:
- Two
Wheel Drive - Transmission drives either the front
or rear axle. These are usually smaller machines under
100hp.
- MFD
- Rear wheel drive with mechanical front drive system.
These mid size machines are the most popular. They
can be equipped with dual tires on each axle, and
typically have engines up to 250hp.
- Four
Wheel Drive
- Typically the largest machines, these are equipped
with a transfer case to drive both front and rear
axles. These can be equipped with dual or triple tires
on each axle. Engines range up to 425hp.
- Track
- Transmission drives both front and rear axles. These
are the newest design and are similar in concept to
crawler loaders but with rubber tracks. Some have
a separate track for each axle, with a front axle
that steers and pivots; while others use the skid
steer system. Combination units of track/wheel are
also available. Engines range up to 425hp.
